For creative exploration

Dear one, welcome to the most joyful pathway. There are no grades here. No right way. No “I’m not an artist.” Grab your card, a pen, and anything colorful nearby, like crayons, markers, or even lipstick. We’re going to play.

Guided visualization (about 2 minutes)

Wiggle your fingers. Roll your shoulders. Take a big breath and let it out with a sigh, maybe even a little sound.

Picture yourself at five or six years old. What are you wearing? Is your hair messy? Are your knees scraped?

Little you is sitting at a table covered in paper and color. She isn’t wondering if it’s good. She isn’t wondering what anyone will think. She’s just making. Watch her hand move.

She looks up and notices you. She holds out a crayon. It’s your favorite color.

Take it. Sit down beside her. She doesn’t need you to teach her anything. She wants you to play.

Feel what it’s like to make something only because it feels good.

Now open your eyes. Pick up your color. With your non-dominant hand, fill your card with marks for 60 seconds. Fast. Loose. Let them be wild.

Reflection prompt card

  • How did it feel to make marks with your “other” hand?
  • When did you stop playing, and what made you stop?
  • What did your inner child want you to know?
  • Name one playful thing you’ll do this week, just for joy.

She’s still there. She always was. If you’d like more ways to return to her, my art lives on journals, prints, and pieces that look beautiful gathered together as a collection on your art wall. Visit loriarbel.com, or reply to this email to step into a creative session with me.
