Birthday Artist: Eva Hesse

This one resonates a lot. Whether intentionally or not, Hesse’s materials lack permanence; their deterioration has prohibited much of her work from exhibition. I've been making works for years knowing that I'm using non-traditional materials. A predicament as mine may not be up to standards as well. If I investigated this aspect I would seize to create. I would be overwhelmed if I had to think about this constraint.

So I create and what will be will be.

I've also included a glimpse into my studio. Look close and you will find what looks like a small shrine. I have vintage postcards, rope, and yarn (symbolic of my grandparents and their sweater mill) with a female African sculpture (our roots). I stand on top of the great women that came before me, we are all connected like this thread.
